Moquette is a French word that in the general sense of the meaning of the carpet in mind. This word in Persian is a special type of industrial flooring that is distinctly different from other products known in the minds of Iranians about carpet, gelim, gabbeh and ….

Carpets are non-woven floorboards that can be woven or non woven, and are produced from various fibers and in various ways, as mentioned below, depending on their application.

Types of carpets can be categorized based on the type of fiber, texture method, dyeing process, texture method, etc. In this article, we will try to create a glance at the traditional carpet categories, in addition to introducing the types of carpets The basis for choosing the appropriate carpet for any space in the future.

Classification of carpets based on the type of fiber

Familiarity with carpet and all kinds of carpets (production method-fiber-dyeing)

1) Wool

Wool is the oldest fiber used on the flooring. It is inherently flexible and does not contain contamination. The fabric is very soft, flexible and durable.

Wool features are used as a benchmark for comparing and standardizing other fibers.

2- Nylon

Nylon or Polyphosphate is one of the synthetic fibers in the textile industry and the production of all types of carpets, which account for 70% of the carpet business. Among the synthetic fibers, nylon is the strongest and most elastic. High resilient nylon against crush It has a high color variation.

3- Olefin (Polypropylene)

Olefin or polypropylene is a polymer based on ethylene-propylene. It has high resistance to moisture and dirt. Low water absorption and resistance to static electricity are important features of this fiber. Olefin (polypropylene) is most suitable for low-pass spaces.

4- Polyester

Synthetic fibers are very good with color brightness. Polyester has a high color variation and a good color durability. Polyester fiber is a very soft fiber that is recommended for residential applications.

The interesting thing about the recycled fiber of polyester fiber and the use of disposable bottles (PET) in the production of these fibers.

5. Triexta

The full name of the “Polymer-Tetrate (PTT)” is actually the newest type of polyester fiber that DUPONT has invented and marketed. This fiber is resistant to stain and has very low water absorption. UV resistance is very good in these fibers.

Acrylic Acrylic

Artificial fibers that look like wool and very light and soft. The use of this fiber is very new in the production of carpet. This fiber is good for washing, but due to its low abrasion resistance, it is not a good option for high-traffic areas.

The classification of carpets according to the production method

Carpets are generally produced in 3 ways. Some of these methods continue to remind of the old ways of producing handmade and traditional underwear, and some have also been made due to the progress made in the textile industry to increase production speed, increase quality, reduce costs, and so on. In the following, we will briefly describe the methods of carpet production and the internal categories of these methods.

1- Woven woven carpets

These carpets are made of wool and are fabricated with fiber weaving. In this method, the warp acts as a backup layer, and sometimes another layer of support is used to increase strength. This method has a high cost and low speed and is commonly used for woolen fibers.

In the fabrication process, the production process is performed in two states of Wilton and Axminster.

2. Tufted carpets

Tufted carpet production is much faster than the tissue method (about 8 times). Nowadays, due to technological progress and increasing demand, about 90% of carpet types are produced by this method.

The method for producing Tufted carpets is that the yarn is first placed on the primary baking layer and, after being glued on by the adhesive in its place, by the secondary baking layer attached to the first layer, This strength increases. The most important categorization of Tufted carpets is as follows. The most important difference is the method of woven in the baking layer.

Cut Pile Method

One of the most popular carpet production methods. In this method, the threads are positioned vertically and the ends are cut.

Loop Pile Method

In this method, the rings remain in the tissue and not cut. These loops can have different lengths.

Cut & Loop Pile method

The combination of these two methods, the change in the height of the threads, and the layout of the composition, are caused by a great deal of variation in the surface and appearance of the carpet.

– Non woven carpets

Woven carpets or felted carpets are carpets in which the fabrication process is removed and the carpeting is the result of the bonding of fibers to each other. In this method, the fibers are glued together by the glue and roller press and make up the carpet layer.
